Surubim is a species of freshwater fish that has a wide geographic distribution in the river basins of South America. For a long time, Surubim or Pintado (the name by which it is known in the South of Brazil) was a must-have dish in steakhouses in São Paulo and the interior of the state. Surubim, like sea fish (salmon, tuna and sardines), is rich in omega-3 fats – which help combat premature aging, prevent heart disease and provide other health benefits.
